I-Sand – Make Construction Sand out of Desert Sand

The company Innovative Sand (I-Sand) pursues a clear vision: transforming desert sand into high-quality construction sand. To bring this patented idea from concept to reality, I-Sand commissioned Codronic to develop a mobile proof-of-concept (POC) system.

Challenge

The objective was to implement the patented process for the first time in a technical system and demonstrate its functionality under real-world conditions. The system had to represent the complete process while remaining mobile and easy to deploy. The main challenges included high thermal requirements, complex material flows, and the integration of all subsystems within a trailer-mounted platform.

Approach

Codronic was responsible for the complete mechanical and electrical development of the system. This included designing the assemblies, integrating the drive technology, and defining the energy inputs. In parallel, Codronic developed the control software and managed hardware procurement.
The system was mounted on a trailer to allow flexible transport and testing at various locations. Final assembly, commissioning, and functional testing were carried out in southern France, where the tests confirmed stable operation and the effectiveness of the process.

Result and Benefit

The mobile POC system successfully demonstrated the technical feasibility of converting desert sand into construction sand. Codronic enabled I-Sand to take the decisive step from concept to functional technology.
The project marks a significant milestone toward sustainable and resource-efficient sand production and showcases how Codronic transforms innovative ideas into operational machinery — through combined expertise in mechanics, electrical engineering, and software development.
